Best of ’09 is a series of posts inspired by Gwen Bell’s The Best of 09 Blog Challenge. It’s a challenge designed to help me write more and rediscover more grateful moments in my 2009! Hopefully, 31 posts in 31 days 😉
Well this is just too easy. And fun. I was just tweeting about it the other day.
But first, here’s some back story…
I heart Sagittarius. No this isn’t another astrology post. Most of the time, astrology does manage to sneak into a lot of what I like to write about. However, since it is Sagittarius time, I’ll share with you a little bit more about just why I love it so much.
Remember in yesterday’s post, where I talked about Sagittarius as it relates to travel? Right. Along with Sagittarius ruling long distance and worldly travel, wouldn’t it seem natural then that all things revolving around diversity of cultures; like art, food, people would also fall into the Sagittarian ruled domain?
Well I just gave that to you, but anyway…
It’s true. If Sag rules all things on a big/wide/far reaching scale, then obviously it has a keen interest in all things related to world cultures. This interest in world diversity appeals to a natural sense of curiosity and wonder that comes with being one of the three fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.
My girlfriend, being a Sagittarius (at least her sun is) always thirsts for new adventures. Always on the go or looking for the next adventure, Andrea read several online reviews for a good Thai restaurant and we ventured 18 miles to Stanton (corner of Chapman & Beach Blvd) to see for ourselves.
Do It To Me Baby One More Time
As with so many charming restaurants in many southern California areas, Thai Nakorn is nestled tightly into a strip mall. gah!
On our weekend day visit, the place was packed. Waiting just a few minutes for seating was frustrating for our already beyond-hungry tummies.
The restaurant does a good job at creating an authentic Thai ambience (however, since I’ve never actually been to Thailand I really do not know). It’s clean and big and you can bring your kids.
We ordered something we’ve never ordered before. Naturally. Being adventure-seekers and all. 🙂
We picked Nam Sod from the appetizer menu. Pork & lime, green onion, peanuts, bean sprouts, crispy rice served with lettuce leaves and fresh cilantro. We weren’t exactly sure what to do with it so we put spoonfuls into the lettuce leaves and made our own lil Nam Sod tacos.
We have been back several times to this place just for this dish! We are wacky wonked on Nam Sod!
We also regularly blow our noses off our faces (well I do, Andrea is not a spicey girl at all) with the red chicken curry (see the pix at the end of KevinEat’s post here). My daughter loves the pad see ewe which is a nice dish if you’re vegetarian. And finally, very delish is the Tom Gai Kai, a traditional coconut milk soup.
So if you are local to the Orange County, California area and looking for some excellent (and reasonably priced) Thai food, my #best09 restaurant discovery is hands down, Thai Nakorn.
